Not a single person of color in a countywide race endorsed? Ok. Screw you, FOP Lodge 7. And since you have made it crystal clear how you want an all-white slate of Irish or near Irish judges, I am going to do the exact opposite with my ballot -- female or not. I'll even vote for the closeted black Republican.
Litricia Payne is African American and Joanne Rosado is Puerto Rican
And neither Payne nor Rosado is running countywide.
KENT DELGADO AND STEPHANIE MILLER ARE ALSO LATINOS
And they are not running countywide. The original poster emphasized countywide.
Mr. Leyhane - What is civil about the first comment that got it past your comment moderation? One can express an objection to the FOP's endorsement without calling police officers murderers. A real disappointment for that to be posted on your blog.
@West Side the Best Side -- You are correct. The first comment here is anything but civil, and my initial impulse was to flush it.
But I let it through because I wanted to point out that that first comment (and the second comment) displayed the sort of thoughtful analysis we've come to expect from Russian provocateurs.
Also, whether these particular comments were typed in Siberia or Chiberia, they are representative of a hostility to the police that really does afflict many (including some lawyers) in our divided polity. Given that reality, I wondered if some 2nd and 5th Subcircuit candidates might have chosen not to seek the FOP's endorsement or whether the FOP might have chosen not to endorse any friendly candidates in those races, so as not to damage their prospects at the polls.
Note that this is speculation on my part; I don't pretend any inside knowledge on this....
No, Jack. Respectfully I must disagree. Every cycle the FOP plays this game where they make up their mind without soliciting any form of input from candidates. No application, no interview, no nothing. If you try to reach out to them without an "invitation" you get the run around. While they don't to this exclusively to candidates of color, they certainly do it to them at a disproportionately higher rate. Why? Ask them. But their track record on endorsements, or lack thereof, of candidates of color speaks volumes.
With all due respect to the commenters, but a FOP endorsement is NOT a selling point among some voters. Do we know if anyone in 2 or 5 sought the endorsement?
Endorsements can be a double-edged sword. Personal PAC generally won’t help with Catholics; FOP won’t help with many minorities; CFL with folks who blame unions for a lot of ills, ... the list goes on. In fact, some aldermanic endorsements can quickly lose you votes.
Certainly everyone would like the newspapers, but if you go through the process you will realize it’s rather arbitrary and often skewed to political correctness. While people accuse FOP (rightly or wrongly) from not endorsing minorities, newspapers seem to go out of their way to endorse a balance and take race into account (but they’d never admit it).
In the end, none of it really matters. I’ve never heard the words “if only he’d gotten that FOP endorsement” in a hospice unit, and when the Ultimate Judge decides your fate, that IVI-IPO isn’t going to matter.
I wish you FOP guys would make it easier to trust you!
Any way you could be more racially and gender balanced? The way it is now, as a backlash, I would recommend that ANY minority should be voted for, to counterbalance you lopsided Caucasian [Irish] candidates - no matter the qualification, or lack of it.
