As the late Sydney J. Harris might have said, here's a thing I learned while looking up other things: A campaign website has been been established for Judge Fredrick H. Bates, candidate for the countywide Walsh vacancy. That's a link to the site in the preceding sentence; a link has also been added to the blog Sidebar.
The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Bates to the Circuit Court this past December; he had already been 'pre-slated' (as an alternate) by the Cook County Democratic Party when the Walsh vacancy opened up. Judge Bates' campaign website provides an extensive list of his service to the community and the profession (here's a link to the complete list). Among these, according to the campaign website, are service as Chairman of Illinois Civil Service Commission and as a member of the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation Legacy Board, the Creighton University School of Law Advisory Board, the Mendel Catholic Prep Alumni Legacy Foundation, and Gilda's Club African American Advisory Council; Legal Prep Charter Academy Advisory Board. Bates is also a former President of the Cook County Bar Association. He has also served on several committees of the Chicago Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the National Bar Association, according to the campaign website.
