Retired Appellate Court Justice Themis N. Karnezis, who passed away last weekend at the age of 81, will be waked tomorrow, Friday, February 23, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Christ the King Church, 9235 S. Hamilton. An additional visitation, starting at 9:30 a.m., will precede the 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass.
According to the obituary published by Heeney-Laughlin funeral directors, Justice Karnezis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Melodie. He was the father of eight children, grandfather to 19, and great-grandfather of eight.
Justice Karnezis began his judicial career as an associate judge in 1982. Appointed, and subsequently elected to a countywide vacancy, Karnezis served in the judiciary until his retirement in 2015. From 2002 until his retirement, Karnezis served, pursuant to Supreme Court appointment, as a justice of the Illinois Appellate Court.
