CBA Young Lawyers Section promotes Dear Santa Letters Program

The CBA YLS is again working with Chicago Public Schools and Direct Effect Charities to help fulfill the holiday wishes of needy Chicago school kids. Lawyers can click on this link to complete a form and request as many letters as they can answer.

The expectation is that responding lawyers will spend $25 or $30 to purchase some or even a few items on each letter writer's list. Packages will be sent directly to each child's school.

For those too busy responding to discovery requests to shop even on line, donations may be made to Direct Effects Charities via Zelle (at 312-296-5311) to help defray the program's administrative costs.

No word yet on whether a Dear Santa program has been set up to fulfill the holiday hopes of deserving lawyers....

Peace in the Preserves set for Friday evening

The Puerto Rican Bar Association is among the groups promoting and sponsoring "Peace in the Preserves," billed as a family-friendly event to promote peace and awareness -- the need for which was made apparent by the ugly incident that occurred at Caldwell Woods, on the Northwest Side, a few weeks ago. You've seen the video.

Hosting the event, set for this Friday, August 3, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Caldwell Woods Pavilion, 6200 W. Devon, is the Northwest Side Coalition Against Racism & Hate. The Jesse White Tumblers will perform and the linked Coalition Facebook page says that music and other family activities (including face painting) will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring picnic dinners.

No fee will be charged for attendance -- but donations will be solicited for a GoFundMe sponsored by the Puerto Rican Agenda of Chicago for Hurricane Maria relief efforts.

For more information, or for last-minute sponsorship opportunities, email Claudia F. Badillo, the acting PRBA president, at Prba@prbalawil.com.

41st Ward Dems sponsor "Get Behind the Vest" Pancake Breakfast this Sunday

This has popped up in my inbox from more than one source... and, yes, I'm hoping to start plowing through the backlog in the next several days. (Click image to enlarge or clarify.)

This particular flyer came in from the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, and the breakfast is raising funds for replacement vests, but, according to the St. Juliana's Parish bulletin, the 11:00 a.m. Mass will be offered in honor of all first responders, not just police officers. All first responders are encouraged to wear their uniforms for the Mass.
