Gray has been licensed in Illinois since 2002, according to ARDC. She has spent her legal career with the Public Defender's office. Her campaign bio says that Gray is the "product of a working-class family and the first in her family to attend a four-year college." She is an active member of the Park Manor Christian Church on the south-side of Chicago, where she has sung in the choir, served as chair of the Trustee Board, and taught as a part of the Sunday Teen Ministry. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Gray lives in Homewood with her husband, a Cook County Sheriff, and their children.

Moore has been licensed as an attorney in Illinois since 2007, according to ARDC. He practices with The Alliance Law Group, P.C. in Chicago's Loop.
Moore's campaign bio states that he obtained his MBA and JD degrees from Northwestern in 1998. Before setting up his own practice, Moore worked "with international & global companies including Booz Allen & Hamilton (management consulting), Jones Lang LaSalle[,] and Grubb & Ellis (commercial real estate)." Moore's campaign bio describes his current practice as "largely composed of real estate, business litigation, and family law." In his family practice, Moore serves as a Guardian ad Litem/Child Representative. Moore applied for associate judge in 2015.
