Updated February 2, 2021 to reflect a 14th vacancy (5th countywide)
The latest information that I have is that there are currently 13 circuit judge vacancies. The following list, now updated, identifies 13 vacancies.
After this post first appeared, many readers left comments about one of the vacancies that I did not initially include.
Actually, the reason that I refrained from including the Robert E. Gordon vacancy in the 8th Subcircuit was that I was unsure whether Justice Gordon would be able to return to the Circuit Court, under the terms of the order appointing him to the Appellate Court vacancy of Justice Shelvin Louise Marie Hall, if his election bid should prove unsuccessful. Some prior appointees have had that 'fallback position.' Yesterday, however, a Supreme Court spokesperson confirmed to FWIW that Justice Gordon's new appointment to the Appellate Court removes him from the Circuit Court roster.
Where a vacancy has been filled by an interim Supreme Court appointment, I have provided the identity of the appointee. If history is any guide, there will be several more vacancies opening up in the months to come. I can and will update as additional information becomes available.
As always, all errors of omission or commission in this list are mine alone and I am grateful for additions and corrections provided.

I already bumped into a circulator in the 35th Ward circulating a sheet for the Hall vacancy.
Wait a minute. You mean that there are more vacancies that only a select few know about? No. That can't possibly be. Just remember, marking your territory early didn't work out last cycle. Stapka isn't always correct.
Who will Burke be appointing in 7 and 14?
According to the non-public memo that Evans sent to the judges -- to shore up his own votes for next year -- that there will be 13 AJ vacancies, but not enough judges to fill vacancies. What is the take away: that the Supremes won't be filling vacancies. Also, the Census and re-maps could spell fewer judgeships for Cook County. If this keeps up, Ken Wright might actually have to start making his judges do some actual work.

You're missing the Gordon vacancy in the 8th Subcircuit. He took the Hall vacancy on the appellate court. I do believe that by doing that, he has created a vacancy in 8th Subcircuit. I see that he is no longer listed on the Supreme Court website as being in the 8th Sub. In fact, several people (other than the newly-elected Green and Forti) appear to be missing from that listing. More vacancies? Perhaps this explains Judge Evans' recent memo to the judges about why they will not be re-assigning people in the immediate future. Judges are leaving and not being replaced because they have spent all of the money in the AOIC budget.
I will be issuing a press release in Politico announcing my candidacy for the Gordon Vacancy in the 8th Subcircuit.
2022 will be even wilder than 2020. Mark my words.

Isn't there a vacancy in 8 because of Gordon's elevation to the appellate court?
There will be a late-breaking vacancy in 3. Madigan will make certain that none of you will be able to get signatures fast enough to fill it. No, not even the gal in the 19th Ward who lost last time will have enough time to do it. But I wish you the best of luck -- about even still being in the 3rd Subcircuit after the redraw the boundaries.
How odd. So Jack posted the "[Dr.] Who Sits Where List" (sorry, but Jack now that I know that Jack likes Dr. Who . . . ), causing me to go to the Supreme Court website to calculate vacancies. Then I noticed the strangest thing. Some, but not all, of the recently elected judges have had their names added to the roster. I saw Chris Stacey, but no Tiesha Smith. I saw Krista Butler, but no Forti or Green (both out of 8). I am sure that was an oversight that will be corrected shortly. But then I noticed several judges who have been elected for years (both countywide and in subs) who are not listed. Ok people: if their names aren't up there, it's a pretty good sign that they have put in their paperwork. Get ready to mark your territory.

Thanks for sharing Jack. I read it and immediately noticed your omission of Bob Gordon's vacancy in 8. Then I went online to look at the circuit judge list and noticed that a bunch of recently elected judges have been designated as "Resident Judges." Is that a mistake?

Araujo will be running in the New 6th Subcircuit once the map comes down late summer. There will be some interesting developments. Those of you living on borders might find yourself in a new (or former) subcircuit. Ouch!
I was checking the court website. Is there a reason why some of the former AJs and recently elected subcircuit judges are listed as "Resident Judges" along with Hall, Solganick and Toomin?
No, Jack. It is not way too early. This is the same time that you posted the vacancies in year's past. But this cycle will be crazier than cycle's past. But some things will be similar to other year's past. 2 candidates from 2020 appear to be on a collision course for a rematch if the ISBE records are correct. Steer clear of that one because it will be U-G-L-Y.
How many more days until we can circulate petitions? Spoon feed me, Jack.
William Hartnell will be running in the 1st subcircuit, while Tom Baker is running in the 4th. Peter Davison will be making a long-shot run in the 5th subcircuit, while Tom's cousin -- Colin -- will make a run in the 6th subcircuit and Sylvester McCoy makes a try for it in the 7th subcircuit. Matt Smith, of course, will be running in the 11th and Jodie Whittaker will make a run Countywide.

THE SUBCIRCUITS ARE BEING REMAPPED

Paul McGann will he running for the Lipscomb vacancy in 8, but might be challenged by Jo Martin.
I am telling you, Slyvestor McCoy can only win in 7 if the boundaries are redrawn; same for Hartnell in 1. Just saying.
Tom Baker could easily sweep the Fourth. But Davison doesn't stand a chance in 5.
The PD's and ASA's are creating dueling slates for the first 10 vacancies.
And nobody with a brain goes to slating.
