The preview images look fuzzy to me, with or without my glasses, and they may likewise appear fuzzy for you, but that is a reflection of my technological limitations rather than any problem with the source material received. I'm particularly concerned that this post may not be as 'mobile-friendly' as I would prefer. I will update later, if I figure out a different way to do this.
Per email received from Suburban Bar Coalition President Deidre Baumann, herewith that group's ratings of jurists seeking retention in the November election (Circuit Court retention candidates are listed in alphabetical, not ballot, order):
The Suburban Bar Coalition of Cook County, Illinois (SBC) is composed of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association (NWSBA), North Suburban Bar Association (NSBA), West Suburban Bar Association (WSBA), Southwest Bar Association (SWBA), and South Suburban Bar Association (SSBA), each of which operates in suburban Cook County. The members of the SBC are composed of representatives from each of the suburban bar groups and collectively represent over 1,000 attorneys.

Charlie Meyerson's Chicago Public Square had this yesterday, but it's not
the first time I've been a day late... or, for that matter, a dollar short.

Wow. I "highly recommend" that the South Suburban Bar Association look into having its nose surgically removed from the posteriors of so many circuit judges. It would be humorous if it wasn't so pathetic.
What a bunch of sheep. They rank almost everybody "highly recommended" to suck up to a bunch of sycophants. Cook County has the judiciary it deserves.
ALL YOU LATINO HATERS CAN KISS MY BACKSIDE - JUDGE SANTIAGO IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND RIGHTLY SO!
so did I get this right? Suburban Bar Coalition found all judges recommended, 80%+ "Highly Recommended"
what was the point of this exercise?
Awesome article.
Clearly a bunch of easy graders.
Theis is vetting 5 women for appointments; 1 African-American and 4 Latinas!! She would be smart to appoint them all. La Raza!!!!!
this is a joke
Bar Association ratings have become beauty contests. All the Associations that rate judges do so without safeguards in place which prevent bias and prejudice of a few respondents causing a favorable or bad rating. One vocal respondent who may have lost one case before a judge can cause a weak rating or even a "killer". One strong committee member can cause an undeserved more favorable rating without an objective basis. This is true with all of them including the CBA and ISBA. The prejudices of the small organizations in favoring their own is from past experience obvious. They should be eliminated from the process. Newspapers blindly accept these ratings which adds to the unfairness of the process. Justice Theis has it right in having her own committee upon which to rely in evaluating judicial candidates.
Ahem, Theis’ committee won’t screen anyone with “bad” bar ratings. Burke too. So don’t be so quick to hold her up as some sort of best practice standard.
You are naive to believe that Theis' screening process is to be lauded as an example of fairness. Anyone knows that it is a farce and the fix is in as to who Thies wants appointed.
I am no fan of Marijuana Theis. But calling her process “fixed” is a bit much. Yes, she knows who she wants to appoint and her committee is just there to make sure she doesn’t appoint someone who will be a total embarrassment. That you haven’t been one of her chosen few is no basis to call her process “fixed.” But hey, it’s 2020 around the corner and if you are Latina or hail from the Emerald Isle you can just run countywide and win. No competence, experience or bar ratings required. Nor is the approval of Mary Jane.
The 2020 Retention Class better prepare because winter is coming.
