A number of objections were filed shortly before this afternoon's deadline for lodging objections to petitions filed by candidates for the Valarie Turner vacancy in the 2nd Subcircuit.
Every candidate, with the sole exception of former Judge Devlin Schoop, drew at least one objection. Ald. Howard Brookins and Chelsey R. Robinson each drew two separate objections.
At least insofar as I have been able to determine from the ISBE website, Ubi O'Neal, who filed for both the Valarie Turner vacancy and the Camille Willis vacancy, does not seem to have withdrawn from either race before today's deadline. I am seeking confirmation on this from the ISBE and will update as circumstances require.

the first time I've been a day late... or, for that matter, a dollar short.

Ubi O'Neal has until January 11, 2018 to decide on which race to run on
Maybe. I defer always to the experts on this -- I am no election lawyer -- but, according to the ISBE calendar, January 11 is the "[l]ast statutory day for candidates of established political parties to file withdrawal of nomination papers in the office of the State Board of Elections," while today, January 3, was the "[l]ast day for an individual who has filed for two (2) or more incompatible offices during the December 18 – 26, 2017 (or having filed for one office during the November 27 – December 4, 2017 filing period and a second incompatible office during the December 18 – 26, 2017 filing period) to withdraw from all but one of the offices in the office of the State Board of Elections."
But this is the reason I understand this withdrawing/not withdrawing to be a big deal.
Bye bye Ubi! You were done today, January 3, 2017 at 5:00. That January 11, 2018 date that you might have in mind might apply to dog catcher, but it doesn't apply to incompatible JUDICIAL vacancies, which is what the Camille Willis and Valarie Turner vacancies are -- incompatible judicial vacancies.
Jack,
Sorry but your reporting is not entirely accurate but understandably so because the ISBE website is confusing about how it reports objections. Brookins and Robinson both drew THREE challenges from the same three objectors.
Willis, O'Neal and Sumner each drew a single objection. But O'Neal failed to withdraw from the Turner vacancy by 5:00 on January 3, 2018 rendering his subsequent filing in Turner void ab initio due to the pendency of his petitions in the Camille Wilis vacancy. And to be clear, O'Neal did file in the Camille Willis vacancy, not the Wes Willis vacancy (as mistakenly reported earlier in your blog).
Thanks for your valuable contributions to this year's races.

Anon 1/3 @ 9:06 p.m. -- Too many Willises, too many Turners! (Error fixed, and thank you.)
Brookins and Robinson each drew three objections -- insufficient signatures.
Ultimately Brookins will run unopposed; clearing the field as we speak.
None of the five regular vacancies in the 2nd drew any more than three candidates. Why did this late one draw six? Did they all know this vacancy would be opening up late and think they'd be alone in filing for it? Seems like there must be a story behind this.
Nothing to see, move along.
Hahaa Ubi is baaaaack
