Miller's appointment is effective January 30; it expires December 3, 2018. According to ARDC, Miller has been licensed in Illinois since 1999.
Miller serves as a member of the Board of the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago. According to a biography posted on the LAGBAC site, before joining the State's Attorney's Office, Miller served as an Assistant Public Guardian. She is also, according to the LAGBAC bio, a co-founder of the National LGBT Prosecutor’s Association, the treasurer of the National Hispanic Prosecutor’s Association, and the LGBT committee chair for the Hispanic Lawyers’ Association of Illinois.
The Lopez Cepero vacancy has been pending now for some time. Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke posted an application for this process last January.

I've known Stephanie professionally for 15 years. She's going to be a great addition to the bench.
She will do a great job and will not be tolerant of people who use angry words or are unprofessional in court. She is a professional and will expect the same.
Very well done. Ms. Miller absolutely crushed another candidate and his powerful supporter from the 31st Ward. Hats off to Justice Burke as well for an inspired pick. Confidence is low that you will survive the election to retain your seat, but who cares. Live one day at a time. Today you won. Bank up. Time will tell.
The appointment was made by Justice Freeman, not Justice Burke.
Well, Anon 1/13 @8:57 a.m., I don't know if that's true or not. You'll note I didn't tout this as a Burke appointment, I merely cited to the application process for that vacancy that was in fact announced by Justice Burke some time ago. So I stand by my post. I understand that vacancies may, from time to time, be informally swapped among the appointing justices; perhaps this is such an instance. I don't pretend to know one way or the other.
I suppose we'll all know for sure if the Law Bulletin gets invited to the swearing-in: While I suppose it could be done differently, it is my observation that the appointing justice does the honors at the ceremony, however formal or informal it may be. That's Krelimnology, Cook County style, I realize. But it seems to work. Anyone have a better indicator?

Short comment here just to set the record straight. The candidate that Miller supposedly "crushed" during the behind the scenes wheeling and dealing for this spot was not a 31st warder. He lives in the 31st ward but make no mistake about this, he came out of the 14th ward's political organization. And those boys in the 14th ward have not heard the last of this. They have a big surprise coming and it does not involve Miller.
Further, Mr. Leyhane, you are right when you stated that the supremes swap appointments. This was a classic case of that time honored tradition. This was a Burke appointment. Not a Freeman appointment even though the supreme court's hocus-pocus machinery would have you believe otherwise.
So, to summarize, the Burkes (yes, Burkes plural) got two appointments in the Hispanic 6th sub-circuit. One fake Hispanic, Kent Alan Delgado, and one half Hispanic, the half Puerto Rican Stephanie Miller. I wonder when the Burkes will appoint Hispanics to vacancies in their own sub-circuit, the 14th sub-circuit? Oh yeah, never.
Ah yes, I love the clueless supreme court's meddling in the 6th sub-circuit. It's the gift that keeps on giving. Attention all potential candidates in the 6th sub-circuit for the 2018 elections. Reserve your armored trucks now. There's going to be a whole lot of money thrown around in the 6th and most of it will be in cold, hard cash.
