FWIW has now confirmed that Illinois Appellate Court Justice Sheldon A. (Shelly) Harris has resigned, effective December 4, 2022.
This pending resignation creates a second Appellate Court vacancy to be filled in the 2022 election. Candidates for this vacancy will have to file their petitions during the special judical filing period, between March 28 and April 4.
Cook County Judge John Ehrlich was named the first alternate by the Cook County Democratic Party in the event that an additional vacancy opened on the Illinois Appellate Court; Ehrlich is effectively now slated for this new opening.
Justice Harris was elected to the Illinois Appellate Court in 2014. He has served on that court since 2010.

the first time I've been a day late... or, for that matter, a dollar short.

Jack Callahan retired on Monday. Tracie Porter is at bat.
Per the ISBE, Judge Jack Callahan has retired.
So when do you intend to announce the Callahan vacancy? April 5th?
Jack Callahan?
I guess if you don't like the speed with which Jack posts vacancies you could take your business elsewhere. Oh, wait, you're not paying him.
Why would Justice Shelley Harris, wait until now to announce his retirement, in disgrace, for the long pending allegations against by the Judicial Inquiry Board, (JIB) As detailed in the recent CDLB article this last week, the nephew of Harris had a case pending before a different panel of the Illinois Appellate Court. Allegedly, and according to the article, Harris contacted 2 of the 3 Justices on that panel that ruled against his nephew, and initiated ex parte communications with then to reverse their decision and reverse the panel and trial court. Allegedly, he is charged by the JIB that he attempted to "fix a case" involving his family. Nothing could be worse unless he also offered money to do so. Naturally it took 5-6 years to bring this prosecution , and of course, he will retire in December before any decision is authored, thus depriving JIB of their jurisdiction to prosecute this horrible ethical violation. SHAME on him for ruining his career but let's ask why it took JIB 5-6 years to air these serious allegations.? He has been making decisive decisions on appeal for 5 years that the Illinois supreme Court knew he tried to fix a case, and NOW, we hear this and give him time to retire? What is going on upstairs? Why does the Illinois Supreme Court hide this horrible allegations in privacy til now? Ask those questions...
