There is a new vacancy in the 14th Judicial Subcircuit

The latest posting from the Illinois State Board of Elections confirms that Judge Rodolfo Garcia has put in his papers; his 14th Subcircuit vacancy has now been certified.

From time to time you may see comments to posts here on FWIW that suggest that this judge, or that one, is stepping down.

Sometimes the comments are entirely accurate... and sometimes the comments appear to represent wishful thinking only. An outsider like me can't always tell which is which.

I think I've been contacted twice by judges planning to step down. Although that would make my blogging life easier (hint, hint), it just so happens that there is no obligation to tell me beans. So I'll keep checking the ISBE website. And, today, Judge Garcia's vacancy is the only new one I can confirm.

JUDGE GARCIA IS THE ONLY LATINO IN AN OVERWHELMINGLY LATINO SUBCIRCUIT. MY FELLOW LATINOS IN THE LEGAL COMMUNITY - DON'T BE A TIO TOMAS AND LET BURKE & MADIGAN APPOINT ANOTHER UNQUALIFIED BLANCO WHO GOES UNOPPOSED IN THE PRIMARY. WE ARE LOSING THE 6TH SUBCIRCUIT AND WE NEVER EVEN HAD THE 14TH - THE TWO "LATINO SUBCIRCUITS"! YES WE NEED A REMAP, BUT UNTIL THEN THIS SEAT NEEDS TO STAY LATINO AND FROM NOW ON WE NEED A LATINO RUNNING AND WINNING EVERY TIME THERE IS A 14TH VACANCY!

I get your point, Jack. But Lynn Egan has been advertised in the Law Bulletin as a mediator with ADR Systems and is identified as "retired." So I think that it is safe to believe that she is now retired.

Well, Anon 9/14 @ 1:33, seems you're right. Don't tell Marc Karlinsky... or Marc Becker, for that matter... but I've been looking at the Law Bulletin online a lot these days so I've missed the ads. But the ISBE does not have the vacancy as of today; I assume that will change.

And... ALLCAPS... *sigh*... the CAPS LOCK key is on the left side of the keyboard, just above the Shift key....

Hey ALLCAPS ! "We" are not losing the 6th subcircuit. "We" are giving the 6th subcircuit away. In 2016, "We" abandoned the slated Hispanic candidate in favor of the white girl from the far north-east corner of the subcircuit. "We" did that. And "We" bent over backwards and rolled out the red carpet and slated the bored rich white guy from haughty River Forest who claimed his city man-cave was his residency and who made a fortune practicing law and running multiple businesses in his Logan Square/Humboldt Park playground. Now "We" are doing it again in the not surprisingly quickly opened up ex-River Forest vacancy. Stop ranting on FWIW and complain to the committeemen of the 6th subcircuit. Especially the 35th Ward committeeman. Ask him if he knows what his proxy has been up to. Then after you do that, "We" can then talk about the 14th subcircuit. VAMONOS.

Uhm, Jack, I saw her ad on the online version. So, what has really been occupying your time? Making a living practicing law? Shame on you. No worries.

Hello all.

Even though the 14th sub-circuit was carved out as an Hispanic (read Mexican) sub-circuit on the south side, no Mexican will run. No Mexican will file nominating papers. No Mexican will dare.

The judgeship will go to.....(drum roll please).....Marina Ammendola, the lawyer that represented Anne and Ed Burke in their "Baby-T" adoption case. She is currently sitting in a countywide spot but there was no room for her at that level. So sub-circuit it will be.

You read it here first boys and girls.

A Latino will run and a Latino will win. Mama Burke and Papa Burke don't want no waves as baby Burke -- don't mean Travis -- runs for Attorney General. So the Great Irish hope wants as many black and brown votes in Cook County as possible. That is why Davis and Harvey got appointments in 2. Now it is the Latino's turn. Associate Judge Amendola will be ok though. Don't you worry one bit for her.

So if you believe the previous two comments it only makes sense that they would appoint Gonzalez to the McGinnis vacancy since he was slated for it. Similar to the Whiting/Payne situation. At least Gonzalez is an Hispanic that Burke has backed. Whether Amendola runs or not in the 14th Sub, I agree she'll get a shot at an associate position after March 20th.
