Twenty-eight countywide judicial hopefuls present credentials for pre-slating

The Cook County Democratic Party has released the names of the 28 countywide judicial hopefuls presenting their credentials at this week's pre-slating meeting. In order of their scheduled appearances, candidates seeking Party support at this juncture are:
  • Clare Quish
  • Cecilia Horan
  • Elizabeth Karkula
  • Litricia Payne
  • Rick Cenar
  • Jonathan Clark Green
  • Jack Hagerty
  • Preston Jones, Jr.
  • Kathleen Lanahan
  • William McLaughlin
  • James Murphy-Aguliu
  • Thomas Nowinski
  • Mike O'Malley
  • James Pontrelli
  • James Reilly
  • Tom Sianis
  • Christ Stacey
  • Daniel Trevino
  • Oran Whiting
  • Tom McGuire
  • Ioana Salajanu
  • Mike Gonzalez
  • Lynn Weaver
  • Erin Antonietti
  • Athena Farmakis
  • Joseph Clary
  • John Maher
  • Marina Ammendola
Each of the five judges serving in countywide vacancies pursuant to Supreme Court appointment (Claire Quish, Cecilia Horan, Elizabeth Karkula, Litricia Payne, and Marina Ammendola) are requesting Party support. The total number of countywide vacancies that will be on the March 2018 primary ballot is not yet known -- it likely will be more than five, but certainly many fewer than 28 -- and the actual number of vacancies won't be known when the Democratic Central Committee convenes in August for its formal slating meeting. (That's one reason why alternates are typically designated.) Although some of the sitting judges are likely to be endorsed by the Party, if history is any guide (and it usually is), not all will be slated.

Some of the candidates appearing for pre-slating may ultimately choose to run in subcircuits instead of countywide. Candidates who already know they will be seeking the Party's endorsement in subcircuit elections would not appear for the pre-slating meeting. Democratic in each subcircuit control slating for subcircuit vacancies. Many subcircuits will hold slating sessions; if and when information becomes available concerning these slating meetings, I will pass it along.

I was at the preslating all day...

The top candidates were (clout listed too):

Quish (probably the best liked overall)
Horan (the "LGBT" quota)
Karkula (highly regarded judge)
Whiting (highly regarded African American lawyer, lots of political support)
Green (Supported by Tunney, the "Jewish" candidate)
Hagerty (Mary Kay client, liked by everyone, great guy)
Payne (strong support by black caucus)
Gonzalez (was an alternate last time, the "Hispanic" candidate)

Next Tier
Nowinski (works for Berrios)
Sianis (works for Jesse White)
Ammendola (friend of Ed Burke, but has not met anyone, only candidate not to bring her resume)

Come on people, poor Jack kills himself to get us all these tidbits and tantalizing bits of information (I bet he even went undercover & donned a little white "waiter's jacket & black bow-tie" & poured water into the glasses of the politicos over at the pre-slate) just to get us the scoop and this is the best we can do???!!!! Post after post & the radio-silence is deafening, been a bigger cliff-hanger than waiting to find out who shot J.R. or whether Stefano DiMera survived his latest helicopter crash on Days of Our Lives.... Is some random comment from Gator "pay me to walk in the door with you" Bradley the best we can do??? I pray not, step up your game Leyhane devotees. Is anybody out there??? Black Lady Who Reads? Our prolific master of the pen "Anonymous?" Anyone??????

Hello everyone. E.P.here.

No. I was not at the pre-slating. I was taking care of the political business somewhere else.

But then again, I didn't have to be. Hispanics are not going to be short-changed. We're going to do very, very well this election cycle. And not just county-wide but in the sub-circuits as well.

Ah yes, the sub-circuits. That's where the real action is going to be. I can't wait. Watch for fire-works in the 6th. Remember, you read it here first.

As always, E.P.

Hope people are not stupid enough to believe the comments written.

All The Appointed Judges are scared to death of Thomas McGwire!
and they should be.
Hi Karkula

Slating is a sucker's game. Just ask half of the 2016 countywide slate what they think of it now. As for Quish, Karkula, Horan, Payne and Amendola, go marry an Irish spouse and change those last names quick.

Because Mary Kay clients did so well last time. Right.

MIKE GONZALEZ AND JAMES MURPHY-AGUILU ARE THE TWO LATINOS WHO PRESENTED AT PRE-SLATING

Anonymous said...

AND OF COURSE DANIEL TREVINO, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE HISPANIC MEXICAN BAR ASSN

I LOVE FIREWORKS! WILL THESE FIREWORKS INVOLVE YOUR TWO MEXICAN CANDIDATES THAT YOU BROUGHT IN TO THE SUBCIRCUIT? THIS SHOULD MAKE FOR A FANTASTIC SHOW!

WHO IS THE NEXT BOB KUZAS???

Anonymous said...

WE NEED TO REDISTRICT THE SUBCIRCUITS. YOU ALL AT TIMES HATE ON ASSISTANT MAJORITY LEADER LUIS ARROYO BUT HE IS THE LEAD SPONSOR OF A BILL ON SPRINGFIELD TO REDISTRICT THE SUBCIRCUITS AFTER THE 2020 CENSUS THEN EVERY 10 YEARS THEREAFTER. THAT IS HB711. VAMONOS!

Hey, Anon on 6-26-17 at 9:32 P.M.

I'll put money on a Mexican beating a Peruvian in the 6th sub-circuit anytime.

As for residency, remember boys and girls, there is no DURATIONAL residency requirement to run in any sub-circuits.

So if these candidates moved in lock, stock and barrel, then they're in. Hell, look at what's going on in the 2nd sub-circuit.

Buckle-up. It's going to be a fun and wild ride.

Hey E.P.

One of the state representatives in the 6th subcircuit is Ecuadorian, Jaime Andrade,.... and Ecuador borders Peru!

Not that many Mexican elected officials in the 6th sub-circuit area, they are either Puerto Rican or Anglo

E.P., will there be a 4th vacancy in the 6th subcircuit?

Anonymous said...

so now everyone concedes he's a peruvian, but a peruvian is not good enough to beat a mexican? that sounds a lot like a caste system. why doesn't everyone take this ethnographic-birther-carpetbaggery to another county. the people of cook county aren't as bigoted as you think they are.

Yes Michel,

There will be a 4th vacancy in the 6th sub-circuit. It's being orchestrated by two sitting judges to benefit the daughter of one of them. It will be a last minute vacancy due to a late retirement just like the last round of elections which gave us Judge Evie De La Rosa.

But as we all know, there are no secrets in this business. The mom started "working the room" way to early and we all know that loose lips sink ships. So we're ready with a candidate of our own.

You read it here first, folks. As Always, E.P.

It seems that others will be ready to pounce on the 4th vacancy as well since the loose lips are flapping in the gale force winds of the 6th subcircuit. May all those seeking refuge from these storms go through E.P. If you aren't "her" candidate, expect her to recruit outside of the subcircuit and come pistolas blazing.

Hello June 30th @ 2:06 PM,

Hell yeah. Might as well make it a party. Everybody is welcome. My philosophy has always been "the more the merrier."

And if they try to pull a different stunt and have the vacancy occur too late for elections, thereby orchestrating a supreme court appointment, so what; the daughter will still be just be a seat-warmer for the next primary cycle in 2020.

So bring it on ladies. We just love it when elections become crusades.

Back from Springfield and as happy as can be, E.P.
