Debra Walker explores Appellate Court candidacy; Nancy Rotering sets up Supreme Court campaign committee

A campaign committee promoting the possible Appellate Court candidacy of Cook County Circuit Court Judge Debra Walker has been established, according to paperwork filed yesterday with the Illinois State Board of Elections. Paula Holderman, a former ISBA President (among many other things) is listed as the campaign chair. Hanah Jubeh of P2 Consulting is specified in the D-1 Statement of Organization as Consultant to the campaign.

Walker was elected to the Circuit Court in 2008 and retained in 2014 and 2020. She presently serves in the Court's Domestic Relations Division. Judge Walker has served on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism since its inception in 2005. She was Commission Chair from 2012 to 2018. Walker was President of the Illinois Judges Association Foundation in 2019-2020.

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering was one of several candidates rumored to be seeking the open Supreme Court seat in the newly constituted Second Judicial District according to a Center for Illinois Politics report I wrote about a couple of weeks back.

A campaign committee in furtherance of Rotering's Supreme Court candidacy has also been established, according to paperwork on file with the ISBE. An amendment to the campaign organization document, filed yesterday, disclosed that former Northfield Township Committeeman Michael Krelof has taken over as campaign chair.

The formation of a campaign committee does not obligate a person to actually run for any office, but it does allow money to be legally raised and spent while decisions are being made about whether to pursue the office in question.

  2. Perhaps she and all of the other would-be candidates should return to work and reopen the courts. What a joke.
