Coleman appointed to Banks vacancy in 5th Subcircuit

The Illinois Supreme Court today appointed Loop practitioner H. Yvonne Coleman to the 5th Subcircuit vacancy created by the recent retirement of Judge Patrica Banks. The appointment, which is effective next Monday, March 27, expires on December 3, 2018.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Coleman concentrated her practice "in employment and civil rights litigation, workplace investigations, and mediation." She previously served, according to the LinkedIn profile, as Bureau Chief of the Civil Rights and Disability Rights Bureaus in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, and as Manager and Chief Hearing Officer, Appeals Division, with the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Coleman also served as General Counsel with the City of Chicago Independent Police Review Authority, according to LinkedIn.

Coleman has been licensed as an attorney in Illinois since 1988. She filed for a countywide vacancy in the 2014 Primary, but withdrew from that race. She also filed for a 5th Subcircuit vacancy in the 2016 election cycle, but withdrew from that race also.

  2. So how many former presidents of the BWLA and CCBA can we expect in this primary?

  3. Do you have a point Anon 7:00? Or do you just feel like being funny? If you want to be funny then I will laugh with you. Ha. Ha. Ha. Otherwise, the answer is: Buzz: as many that qualify. Also FYI, Ms. Coleman is not a past president of the CCBA or the BWLA (a little birdie told me). Take a seat.

  4. As long as they are qualified who cares?

  5. FYI, I wasn't suggesting that she was a past president of either. No, I was not being funny. I was serious in stating the obvious, several people falling into that category presume to be entitled to the seat. And for the record, the Supremes got this one right. Who is laughing now.

    good luck judge!

  7. Anon 7:00. Just so we're clear...No BWLA president has been appointed or elected as a circuit court judge. Also what's with that statement about the presumption of entitlement? Seriously. First get rid of the code words. Just say the word Black. It's an easy word to say. And it's beautiful. No more code words. But keep this in mind...when white Irish are appointed or elected circuit court judges is that the real presumption of entitlement to a seat that you were referring to?

  9. Yes, to answer your question it is just as presumptuous. Enjoy your answer. 2018 is gonna be awesome! Heads are exploding and it isn't even April yet. Can't wait until slating!

  10. Coleman is going to have a hard time winning.
Look at the women breathing down her neck to run against her. Guess who?
Mays & Melchor are losers. Who can beat Coleman?

  11. Nice try. She will know her opponents soon enough. August is just around the corner.

  12. This sounds like anon 8:12 is trying to plant some seeds. But when you plant seeds you just might get weeds too. Possibly PH working to get RS from 8 to go back to run in 5?

  13. Anon 8:12. Shame on you for calling Mays and Melchor losers. They are two experienced, compassionate and professional lawyers. There is nothing at this point to even indicate that either will run in 5. So your calling them losers is unfair and unwarranted. They never have been or will ever be losers in no sense of the word. Take a seat. No. Take two.

  15. Anon 8:45, best believe it. That's all she does. Expect similar nonsense in 2. Good luck JUDGE Coleman. Anon 7:00.

  16. Marion Perkins is the perfect candidate to run in the 5th subcircuit. She will run.

  17. Marian Perkins? Nice person but has no business . . .
