RICHARD COOKE GAVE ED UNDERHILL $30,000 - SMELLS LIKE A DEAL WAS NADE TO KEEP UNDERHILL OUT OF COOKE'S RACE AND INTO THE CLAUDIO LOFTUS RACE. CUNNING OR DIRTY? YOU BE THE JUDGE!

According to the ISBE, the contribution came on December 16, long after the filing period.

...And let's not forget that Underhill was gathering signatures for two months in the Loftus / Claudio race prior to the filing date. Maybe Cooke thinks Underhill is the superior candidate? Or, (more likely given Cooke's stated deference and loyalty to the Democratic Party) the Ward Bosses want Underhill's campaign to get a boost that only money in the warchest can bring. Sounds like the Ward Bosses are turning on their slated candidate, Claudio.

@Anon 11:10 - The answer to your question is: Neither. Its just politics. To file in the "A" vacancy where Loftus was appointed and Claudio was slated, Underhill would have had to circulate for weeks for that vacancy. He must have thought his chances were better in that vacancy than the Santiago vacancy that Cooke was slated for. Now, as far as Cooke's donation; that is another story. I checked the ISBE website and found out that Cooke made that donation directly from his Committee to Underhill's Committee. Cooke did not try to hide it but rather put it right out there for the entire world to see. Remember, this is the same guy who had the balls to tell the Democratic Committeemen that he would consider their 2014 Slating Meeting his 2016 Campaign Kick-Off Event if they did not slate him. Apparently he has no filter or simply does not care what people think.

Wow, if it is true, what a great deal. To Comment Number One: I would call it brilliant. One of the candidates with the most available to spend actually spends the least. Many have blown ten times that amount only to lose and require a lifetime prescription for Xanax.
