Fraternal Order of Police makes endorsements in some judicial races

This post updates one that originally appeared here on February 8.

According to the March issue of the FOP News, the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge No. 7, has made endorsements in some judicial races. The FOP's February newsletter included some, but not all, of these endorsements.

For the Appellate Court, the FOP endorsed Susan Kennedy Sullivan for the Gordon vacancy, David W. Ellis for the Murphy vacancy, and John B. Simon for the Steele vacancy.

In two judicial races, the FOP has endorsed two candidates. In the race for the countywide Arnold vacancy, the FOP has endorsed both Judge Alfred M. Swanson, Jr. and his opponent, Bridget Anne Mitchell. Swanson and Mitchell are the only two candidates in that race. In the race for the Donnelly vacancy in the 3rd Subcircuit (a subcircuit which includes another large concentration of Lodge 7 members), the FOP has endorsed both Lauren Brougham Glennon and Terrence J. McGuire. Glennon and McGuire are the only two candidates in that race.

In the race for the countywide Neville vacancy, the FOP has endorsed William B. Raines. James Patrick Crawley received the FOP's endorsement for the Veal vacancy. Unopposed countywide candidates Maritza Martinez, Dan Kubasiak, Thomas J. Carroll were also endorsed by the FOP. Brendan O'Brien, who has dropped out of the race for the Connors vacancy, would have had the FOP's endorsement had he stayed in.

In subcircuit races, Steven G. Watkins received the FOP's endorsement in the race for the O'Neal vacancy in the South Side 2nd Subcircuit. Megan Goldish, a candidate for the Goldberg vacancy in the North Side and north suburban 9th Subcircuit, was also endorsed by the FOP.

In the 10th Subcircuit, the FOP has endorsed Judge Anthony "Tony" Kyriakopoulos. The 10th Subcircuit includes a large portion of Chicago's Northwest Side, where many members of Lodge 7 live. In the 11th Subcircuit, which also includes portions of the Northwest Side as well as a number of northwest and western suburbs, the FOP has endorsed Gina A. Crumble for the "A" vacancy.

The FOP has also made what amounts to 'friends and family' endorsements in two wholly suburban subcircuits. In the race for the Sterba vacancy in the 15th Subcircuit, the FOP has endorsed Michael Barrett. The FOP's February newsletter noted that John J. Mahoney was endorsed by the FOP for the Billik vacancy in the 4th Subcircuit. That endorsement was not, however, repeated in the March newsletter.
